Roads Are Dangerous Places For A Family

Baby’s First Big Holiday!

Baby’s First Big Holiday!

When your little one is a year old, you might start thinking about taking them on holiday. After all, it’s a nice chance for them to explore the world. And it gives you a break from your humble abode too. However, taking a little one on holiday is like a vacation you have never been on before. After all, there is a lot of prep involved before you can get on the plane! In fact, here are a few things to consider when taking your baby on their first holiday.

How will I manage the journey?

One of the biggest fears for moms when taking their baby away for the first time is how will they deal with the plane journey. After all, little ones can often get scared when traveling on a plane. And it can make the long journey painful for you and others around you.  Therefore, it’s worth considering how you will manage the journey before you book. You should think carefully about the length of the trip. If you were thinking of long-haul, it might be worth changing to a short trip which will be much easier to deal with. And before you even go on the trip, you need to get some essentials for the plane. A couple of your child’s favorite toys will ensure they are less stressed out!

Can I afford the cost?

After having your child, it can feel like your bank balance can take a battering. After all, there is so much you need to pay out for your baby. And losing one wage packet can mean you and your partner might be struggling for money. But it’s so important to scrape some money together to ensure you can go on holiday. It’s worth making a budget at the start, so you know how much you can afford. That way, it will stop you spending too much on vacation. And then you can attempt to look for holidays which are within your budget. And if you can’t find a holiday that you can afford, you could consider paying monthly instead for the break. You can either pay the travel agent monthly, or you could even look into getting a loan which you can pay over a set amount of time. Just make sure you check the secured loan rates, so you don’t end up getting something you can’t afford to pay back! And minimize the amount of spending money you take with you so that you don’t end up breaking the bank!

Is it a baby-friendly area?

As much as you might fancy a nice quiet hotel for your holiday, it might not be suitable for your baby. After all, you might end up upsetting other guests if you have a screaming baby. Therefore, before booking anywhere for your holiday, make sure you choose a baby-friendly resort. That way, you will be among other families who won’t care if your child is throwing a tantrum. And at a family friendly hotel, they will have plenty to do to keep your little one occupied!

And remember there is nothing wrong with having a staycation with your child. After all, they will still enjoy the time visiting places in your area. And it will save you the worry of traveling with your little one.

Tips for Getting Through Bed Rest During Pregnancy

Tips for Getting Through Bed Rest During Pregnancy

Spending endless hours curled up in your comfy warm bed might sound like your idea of heaven, but when bedrest is imposed on your during your pregnancy, it’s a different matter. Being confined to bed rest might be the best thing for you and your baby, but it can drive you stir crazy if you’re not careful. So, if you’ve been ordered to stay in bed by your physician, check out these simple tips for getting through bed rest when you’re carrying a baby:

Avoid Isolation

Just because you have to stay in bed doesn’t mean you have to cut yourself off from your social support networks. One of the best things about smartphones, tablets and laptops is that they enable us to stay in contact with our loved ones even if we aren’t physically with them, So, make an effort to call or Skype with your friends and invite your besties over to have a chat with you as often as they can and you’ll avoid feeling isolated, which can lead to depression when you’re on bed rest.

Seek Help

When you’re laid up in bed, you’re unable to do the things that usually come easily, such as buying groceries and keeping the house clean. Don’t be afraid to reach out to friends and family to ask them for help with these everyday tasks that will make life easier and ensure that you have everything you need.

Concentrate on Your Baby

When cabin fever sets in and you start to resent being locked up in your room, which starts to feel like a rather comfy prison to you, instead of getting mad, anxious or depressed, try to concentrate on the reason you are doing this. Think about your baby and how important it is that you rest for his or her sake. Also bear in mind that bed rest won’t last forever and it’ll only be a matter of time before you can leave the room, meet your baby and have many exciting life adventures.

Buy a New Mattress

If staying in bed is tough because you just can’t get comfy, consider investing in a new mattress. I know money is often tight when you’re expecting a new baby, but your own personal comfort is important, and you won’t be able to tackle early motherhood with gusto if you have a good back, so invest in a good mattress by the likes of John Ryan by Design, which offer support and comfort in spades and make the most of your bed rest while you can – you won’t be getting much rest for a while when baby makes an appearance!

Stay Productive

Instead of spending all your time ruminating on all the things you’d rather be doing and worrying about the impending birth of your baby, do what you can to take your mind off your problems and stay productive. Knitting is a good choice because it has been shown to improve anxiety and depression levels, it keeps you busy, and you can knit some cute baby clothes for the new arrival, but do whatever it is that makes you feel better.

Work from Home

If you’re well enough, and you hadn’t prepared to give up work so soon in your pregnancy, it might be worth asking your doctor if it is safe for you to work from home – it’ll help to keep you occupied, and you’ll be able to earn more money if you do.

If your current job isn’t one that makes it easy to work from home, you could consider signing up for a freelance job site, like People Per Hour, where you can pick up temporary work that can typically be done from a laptop or phone at home.

Research

When you’re stuck at home during pregnancy, it’s the perfect time to research childbirth and looking after a new baby. So, buy or borrow books and check out as many good mommy and baby websites as you can, and you’ll feel better about the birth and your upcoming role as a dedicated new mom.

Relax

Of course, the best thing you can do with your bed rest when you’re pregnancy is to actually relax. Meditate, paint your nails, watch your favorite Netflix shows and catch up on all the books you’ve been meaning to read, but which you’ve never had the time to check out. The less stressed out you are, the better it is for you and your baby, so do whatever it is that gets you into that calm space, where you feel light and worry free.

These 3 Areas Are Central To Your Kids’ Health

These 3 Areas Are Central To Your Kids’ Health

We all want to know that we are doing everything possible to look after our children, yet many of us are often guilty of failing to do just that. This is sometimes simply because of a kind of ignorance, a lack of understanding about what needs doing and when. It is helpful for any parent to know as much as possible about keeping their kids healthy, and that’s where this post comes in. Here, we are going to look at three of the main areas that are central to your kids’ health. These parts of the body often need particular care and attention, otherwise you might find your children suffering from various health concerns. Let’s take a look at what they are, and what you should do to keep them as healthy as possible for as long as possible.

Digestive System

Your kids’ guts are some of the most important of all, especially during those tender years. You might be surprised at just how much damage can be done in later life by not properly looking after their digestive system now, as early on as possible. Part of what needs to happen here is that your children should ideally be given the chance to develop a decent immune system. This means not completely covering them in cotton wool, but instead allowing them to play in the dirt a little. This is the natural way for people to become protected from illnesses, and it is one of the most important things you should do as a parent. Look at meridianpress.net/articles/lookingafterourdigestivesystem.html for more advice on this.

Spine

At young ages, the spine can often be particularly prone to damage. With the youngest children, the spine is sometimes still quite malleable, and as such falls and trips and so on can have a surprisingly negative ongoing effect. If you want your kids to have great spine health in later life, then it might be worth taking them to a chiropractor on a regular basis. Doctors such as the ones at http://waconiafamilychiro.com/ can ensure that all of your children’s spines are kept in the best possible condition. This is likely to make a huge difference to their overall health in later life.

Heart

Something that you must ensure is that your children get as much cardiovascular exercise as possible. This ensures that their heart is kept in the best shape – something which is hugely important for people of all ages, and especially children. They only need to have one or two sessions of cardio exercise a week, but this will make a huge difference to how well their heart functions and might even lengthen their life considerably. If you feel that your children do not currently get enough of this kind of exercise, then fortunately it is easy to work into the daily routine. Even playing ball games together can be a great and powerful way of keeping the heart as healthy as possible, and you are likely to have fun at the same time.
